This is a favorite childhood recipe but I'm not sure where it originated from. I do know that I haven't met anyone who doesn't really like these cookies! Try them and tell me if these have become one of your favorites!
Honey Spice Cookies
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1/4 cup honey
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
2 1/4 cups flour
Add brown sugar to shortening and cream well. Blend in egg and honey and beat well. Gradually add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. If desired, chill dough (it is easier to work with if you do) for an hour or more. Round and roll dough. Dip tops in water and then some sugar. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F. oven on an ungreased cookie sheet for 9 - 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cookies set for a minute before removing from pan. Store in a tightly covered container.
