Cherry Dessert

This is the sweet treat of the week.  I love this recipe because it truly is quick to make.
Cherry Dessert

Cherry Dessert

3 Tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
21 oz. can cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Melt butter and put in 8" x 8" square pan.  Mix milk, sugar, flour and baking powder.  Pour batter into pan (do not mix with melted butter).  Top with cherry filling; there is no need to mix the filling in.  The cherries will sink to the bottom and the batter will rise to the top when baking.  Bake for 45 minutes.  If desired, dust with powdered sugar.

  2. You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! To make it extra good, warm in microwave and then add a scoop of ice cream!!

  4. Just wondering what I did wrong. Mine does not look anything like yours does. I double checked the recipe and the measurements I used. I cooked it for 45 minutes and the center was gooey and the cherries did not sink to the bottom as you said they would.

  5. I'm so sorry that your dessert did not turn out right. I am assuming you did use the correct size pan and also did not mix the butter layer with the batter mixture and did not mix the batter mixture with the cherry filling because that would affect the recipe. The only other thing that I can think of is that your oven temperature may be a little different from my oven's. Next time you try this recipe I would bake it a little bit longer. If it was only a little bit gooey, try baking it for 3-4 minutes; if it was more gooey, try baking it for 5-6 minutes longer. I hope you try this recipe again because I have made it many times and it always came out fine. Let me know if the extra baking time works!
